G20 Brasil 2024

Heads of state and government from G20 member nations gather at the highest level of meetings to deliberate on major international problems. Usually held once a year, these summits are hosted by various member nations. They provide leaders the chance to have high-level conversations, work out agreements, and establish goals for global collaboration. The Group of Twenty (G20) is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. It plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. India holds the Presidency of the G20 from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023.

G20 Summit 2024- Who will be the host?

The world's largest economies grouped in the G20 will hold their annual heads of state or government summit this year in Rio de Janeiro, state Governor Claudio Castro said. Brazil will take over the rotating presidency of the G20 from India on Dec. 1. The meeting of economic powerhouses will take place on Nov. 18 and 19, a Brazilian government official said. It will be the largest event in Rio since the city hosted the Olympic Games in 2016 and the World Cup soccer final in 2014. This is the first time that Brazil has been chosen to host the G20 Leaders Summit since the group was created in 1999. Rotation of the G20 Presidency

The G20 Presidency is responsible for bringing together the G20 agenda in consultation with other members and in response to developments in the global economy. The rotation system in the G20 is a way of choosing which member country gets to be the president of the G20 for a year. There are 20 members, including the European Union, but they are divided into groups of four countries each, mainly based on their regions.

Each year, one of these groups gets a chance to pick their country to be the president. This system started in 2010 when South Korea was the president. It helps make sure that different countries have a turn to lead and organize the G20 meetings.

The countries in a group have to decide among themselves which one will be the president. For example, in 2018, it was group 3's turn, which had Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil. They had to talk and choose Argentina as the president.

Sometimes, there are negotiations within the group about who should be the president. It can be a bit like a competition. The timing of a country's elections can also affect when they want to be the president. For example, India wanted to be president in 2018 because they had elections in 2019.

This rotation system helps ensure fairness and diversity in leadership within the G20.
