What Indian Government is planning to implement to attract Wellness Tourism In India?

In this constantly growing economy where people are stressed out, wellness tourism becomes more important. The various wellness therapies it provides can help restore your body, mind, and soul and allow you to regain some balance. India is one of the world's most popular destinations for people looking to explore holistic treatments due to its spiritual connections with ancient practices and Eastern philosophies like Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and panchakarma. If you're interested in these wellness practices then India is the perfect place for you.

Globally, wellness tourism is multiplying, with an annual growth rate of 6.5%, more than twice as fast as the 3.2% growth in global tourism on average. According to Global Wellness Institute, the Wellness Tourism market is set to grow by nearly 8% through 2022. These enticing numbers have pushed countries all over the world to promote wellness tourism. The same is the case with India. The government of India recently launched a program called ‘Heal in India’ through which the government aims at positioning the country as a global hub for medical and wellness tourism, and a destination of choice for quality healthcare services. It’s not just the government that has made plans to boost this sector of tourism. Still, renowned luxury hotel chains have invested in developing experiential wellness products to further attract travelers. With these efforts, India can soon become a high-value wellness tourism hub. The Ministry of Tourism once mentioned in their official notice, “The potential of wellness systems, developed through centuries of the wisdom of this ancient civilization would be fully tapped. This is being done by positioning India as a center of Ayurveda, Yoga, Sidha, Naturopathy, etc. together with the spiritual philosophy that has been integral to the Indian way of life.”

India has a strong and deeply rooted history with Ayurveda, meditation, yoga, homeopathy, and various other healing processes. Kerala is the hotspot for providing the best kind of natural therapies for everyone to cleanse their tired bodies. It even became a pioneer in educating people and tourists from around the world about the benefits of healing therapies. The primary purpose of the travelers was leisure, but when they get to experience ‘wellness and healing therapies, the whole ball game is changed. Their trip becomes more ‘product focused’ where the service provided is the selling point. When they go back to their homelands, they reach out to people about the goodness of their experience, thus bringing more business to the country.

Wellness tourism also helps in preserving traditional cultures across the world. Wellness tourism gives native people a chance to interact with different cultures and ways of life. Old customs not only attract tourists but also increase the awareness and interest of regional people in their traditional values. In 2015, India was featured on the list of top 15 wellness tourism destinations with hotels across Asia. Presently, the country is witnessing a boom in the wellness segment. Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Goa, and Ashtamudiare said to be the best to relish a rejuvenating experience.

Heal in India covers the technical aspect of the medical traveler’s trip as they are provided with services like air ambulances, authorized centers, and priority visas as some travelers are visiting the country for serious medical treatments as medical tourists. The campaign also has plans suggesting promoting India as a wellness tourism destination through roadshows and other promotional activities. According to a report by the Global Wellness Institute, wellness tourism is slated to grow at an average annual rate of 7.5 percent by 2022. This is higher than the projected 6.4 percent rate for the annual growth of overall global tourism.

Medical Tourism is becoming one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, with approximately a growth of 30% a year. Since India is also a leading nation in the medical sector, employment opportunities are in abundance. With the variety of treatments provided to tourists and people, technicians and helpers in the field will always be required in great numbers. Elaborating on India's potential and advantages in the healthcare industry, it is said that  Indian medical practitioners have high-quality medical training and are fluent in English.
